Dealing With Painful Cavities

If you are having painful issues with one or more of your teeth and you think that it could be a cavity, then you'll want to get in to see your dentist as soon as you can. However, you may not be able to get an appointment right away. If this is the case, you have two options. You can go to an emergency dentist or you can find ways of dealing with the cavity until you can get in to see your own dentist. This article will give you tips on dealing with a painful cavity while you wait to get in to see your dentist.

Keep your mouth as clean as possible

Keeping your mouth clean will help to prevent bacteria from spreading that can cause an infection to set in. You should make sure you brush your teeth in the morning and at night, as you probably already do. However, you should also add in at least a couple more sessions when you are dealing with a painful cavity. Make sure you use a soft brush, and make sure you don't use too much pressure or it can bring on more pain.

You should also rinse your mouth out with warm salt water throughout the day. Not only will this help to keep your mouth clean, but the salt water can actually fend of infection on its own and has properties that will help relieve some of the pain you are dealing with.

Ease the pain by using some good home remedies

There are many home remedies that you can use to ease the pain of a toothache that's caused by a cavity. Putting clove oil on a small piece of cotton and placing that cotton on the side of the affected tooth can give you a lot of relief from the pain. Also, putting a small piece of a garlic clove next to the affected tooth can help to take away some of the pain that you are experiencing. Another way to get some pain relief is to take a smaller piece of ice and gently bite down on it until it melts. This will numb the affected area. You may need to use a few pieces of ice back to back in order to completely numb the area.

Following the tips here will help you deal with that cavity. However, it's very important for you to still get on to the dentist for treatment as soon as you are able to get in to see them. For more information, contact local professionals like McMillin Jeff DDS.
